I went out calling this morning, the weather was outstanding with just a few minus degrees and sunshine. On my first stand i saw alot of tracks and started calling that field and brushes, the fox came in a ditch and i didn´t see him until it was too late. He turned and ran down towards a lake at the end of the field and then headed home to the den, guess i´ll have to stalk him as calling wont work on him for a few months (tried it and they learn quick). After that i went tracking for tomorrows stand and man theres a lot of foxes running during the night, i NEED the moon now but it´s ten days away and then it´s not sure if the snow is still on the ground as they predicted warm weather for one moore week. After tracking i headed back towards town and spotted tow foxes just outside the city limits where i know theres a den, i shot a young mangy fox there earlier this season so i spun around and headed for a place to put the car.I started to call the foxes but they didn´t respond at all, i´ve had mangys do that before so i started to stalk on one of them and got to a bushy spot just 80 yards of the city limits from there theres open fields so i set the Harris into the snow and just as the fox had scratched hes tail and stood up and began to walk away i sent a 40gr Sierra varmint hitting him in the neck. When i measured the shot it was my longest so far on a fox 179 yards and he dropped at the spot, guess there was some luck involved but it sure feels good to drop them a bit away from ya´
