Last one for 2008

Did two stands this morning before the guys arrived for the Deerhunt, had fox on both but the first got away by an inch. But this one came in straight from 6 or 700 yards over a field and then the frosen lake, he didn´t stop so the first shot missed then i threw away the second when he ran 100 yards out hitting him were he tumbled and dropped......
The call this time was my homemade "PeeWee" sounds like a dream meal to the foxes, a light but longrange scream......
Take it easy on the fireworks tonight.......lets hope 2009 brings in more "Reds"

Santa came early!!

Phew!!.... now the weekends are almost over, that means that the calling season will peak more and more out to the last of March. On Monday the 22:nd there was a package in the mail bundle from the creator of Nordik Predator (P-A Åhlén) it was his new baby the "Nordik Crying Bird" distress call for predators, so far i can only say it has a different sound to what im used to but when i hear it i feel that the sound will attract small predators such as fox and martens i also belive this call will work in Lynx populated area..... Im up for 4 days of hunting starting tomorrow so i´ll be back with the field test result on the call (pics will be added).

I must say we have been blessed with the great weather over xmas, me and my buddies have been out hunting for Roedeer almost every day we have been off work, and i actually shot a small buck last friday.... too bad i wasn´t carrying the camera..

Happy New Year!!!

One European Hare in the bag....

Today we had an insane huntingday as for Roedeer, we hunted four areas and had a total of 33 Roedeer up and running 24 in the first area 3 in the next and 7 in the last....one area was empty, too bad we didn´t get any of them in range for the shooters but now we know we can tax this population this year without doing it much damage. My friend Björn shot a European hare in the last area and i forgot the camera at home so for those of you who want to see what they look like i have pasted a link below....

Happy hunting!

Found a funny lumberhideout!

I spent this Saturday tracking our area for game but the heavy snowfall made the game pretty slow and they were not moving around so i tracked for several hours without findng anything but this little truckcabin that was fitted with a small stove and a bench + table, guess lumbers use it too eat lunch and have coffebreaks on during badweather days.
On Sunday we hunted Roedeer with dog again and i almost got the shot this time, i made a bummer and answered the cellphone just as the Deers came running past me "##%¤&#%!!
We are going for it nex weekend again WITHOUT phone :)

Sunday still hard wind from the north!!

Today i started the morning by oversleeping, calling two empty stands and forgetting the coffe flask at home how´s that for a start huh? Anyway as you can tell from the pic things turned out good in the end.......

Me and a buddy thought we had to try and get some deers without the dogs help as we spotted a small group of deers in a field, so my buddy loaded the 12ga and rounded a small piece of "forest" and took stand there on a narrow cattle path. I snuk around the field walking in on the deers who escaped me into that same forest and in seconds i heard the familiar sound of a shotgun. My buddy shot the Buck leading the group with one shell of no.3 buckshot......

Weekend wrapup!!!

Two days of blue sky and hard wind coming in from the north.

I seem to be followed by mangy and that sucks big time as this Red were in a very good size and taxidermist material, i need a wallhanger from this season too but so far only mangy and small summer pelts have bit the dust.
Anyway here´s the story of how to spend a good morning......

Saturday 05:30

You get out of bed before sunrise and when you walk outside you are the first to make new tracks in the snow that fell overnight. Then you drive out in the hunting area and start to track in the new snow, i got up on a ridge an found fresh fox tracks in the side of an small road.I made a loop around not to spread to much sent and sat down at the edge on a rather big clearcutting and started too call. The wind were pretty strong blowning in from the north so i thought i´d try some open reeders to get out a bit as the tracks were probably 6-700 yards away.I started off with my TT cowtip distress call wich also were the only one i needed as the fox came running along the same side of the clearcutting as i was sitting on and i saw it coming in so i dropped the call and got the rifle ready as the fox dissapered for 5 sec behind a big rock and when he popped out on the other side i dropped him at 20 yards.

Thanks for looking!!

The snow melted away.....but the Reds are up and runnin´

Had a pretty slow start in the wood Saturday, i was hunting as guest in a neighbouring area and we were 14 hunters and three driving dogs on smallgame hunt.
We had about three drives of different smallgame in the morning and when we took break for lunch we decided to make it a day as no more game had been see or tracked.
Me and my friend Bjorn decided though to take a different way through the woods heading to the car, almost there the dog picked up a Roedeer and drove it off so we split up and took stands waiting for the deer to come back to the dogs pickup area.
I sat down on my backpack and after 5-10 min this little male Redfox came runnig down on me probably scared off by the drive on the deer, anyway i got up and let the 12 gauge do its job......

Sorry for picture quality it was foggy and less then 150 yards of clear sight.
